Join us for a fast-paced event exploring the future of manufacturing in space in collaboration with Satellite Applications Catapult. We will be joined by representatives from across government, industry and academia to discuss how current manufacturing could be applied in space, and how the space environment could enhance future manufacturing capabilities.

We are inviting you to participate in the event within the topics of ‘Why in space and not on Earth’, ‘Getting manufacturing facilities into space’ and ‘UK capabilities for manufacturing in space’. If you would like to apply to participate please let us know by emailing marketing@sa.catapult.org.uk with details of what you would like to present, and we will be in touch with you by 8th July to let you know the outcome. Each speaking slot will be limited to one or two speakers so if there is a high demand we will look to include more opportunities in future events.

The event will also include parallel panel sessions so you will be asked when registering to choose a session that you would like to attend. These will give you the opportunity to get involved and ask questions to the panellists, and to drive the conversation based on the collective group involvement.

Michael Curtis Rouse, Head of Manufacturing for Space, SA Catapult:

Mike is the Head of Manufacturing for Space within the Satellite Applications Catapult, he leads on commercial development and evolution of upstream space, focusing specifically on launch vehicles, spacecraft and in-orbit services. He an evangelist for the utilisation of new and disruptive technologies and is the technical architect for the Catapult’s Disruptive Innovation for Space Centre; a holistic strategic capability designed to increase the UK’s manufacturing base for upstream space. Mike has a special interest in net shape manufacturing, with a focus on refractory metals for use in extreme environments e.g. launch propulsion systems.

Prior to joining the Catapult, Mike held a variety of positions manufacturing positions at the Science and Technologies Facilities Council and was the Program Manager for the Harwell Robotics and Autonomy Facility, he was the EMEA Director for 3DSIM LLC an additive manufacturing simulation company (acquired by Ansys in Nov 2017) , and additionally is the Chief Experience Officer for Space Store, a new experiential store dedicated to bringing space to everyone. Mike read Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.

Dr Chris Brunskill, Head of UK Space Programmes at D-Orbit, bio:

Dr Chris Brunskill is an electronics engineer specialising in small satellite systems and mission design. He obtained a Masters of Engineering degree in electronics and satellite engineering from the University of Surrey and a PhD in space robotics from the Surrey Space Centre. He has been responsible for the development and delivery of a multitude of CubeSat missions, focused in the creation of new satellite applications that utilise state of the art flight, ground and launch technologies for demonstration of new mission concepts. He is now responsible for creating missions that enable new capabilities for space logistics and services at D-Orbit UK. Chris is passionate about open, innovative technology development in the space sector.

Martin McHugh, CTO & Acting CEO at CSA Catapult, bio:

Martin leads the strategic direction of the Catapult, driving its approach to accelerate UK industry’s ability to exploit advancements in compound semiconductor technologies. He also leads the strategic direction of the Catapult’s four key technology areas of power electronics, RF & microwave, photonics and advanced packaging. Martin’s wealth of technology experience has been developed through a host of technical and commercial roles with responsibilities covering the UK, Europe and North America. Prior to joining the CSA Catapult, he headed up business and technology development for Microchip’s (Microsemi Corporation) advanced packaging business where, during his 20 year tenure, he played a key role in transforming the company’s focus from analogue telecoms to wireless digital communications.
