As quantum technologies move towards commercial deployment, the need to accelerate world-leading UK research into scalable, real-world deployment is increasingly critical. In response, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult has appointed William Waller as Head of Quantum.
William’s appointment as Head of Quantum will help accelerate its focus on key areas including quantum systems, AI hardware, advanced packaging, photonics, RF control, cryogenic integration and test. These capabilities are central to enabling the next generation of quantum technologies, particularly in quantum communications, quantum sensing and future quantum computing infrastructure, where integration, reliability and scalability will be essential.
The appointment reflects a growing challenge across the quantum sector: moving from concept to engineer, manufacturing and supply-chain delivery. While the UK has strong research capability in quantum technologies, greater focus is now required to enable integration, reliability and scale-up.
CSA Catapult plays a key role in bridging this gap, from concept through to commercialisation and enabling scale-up across the UK.
William joins from Leonardo, where he developed extensive experience in systems engineering and complex technology development, including defence and dual-use applications. His background reflects the growing need for systems-level thinking and engineering discipline in quantum, alongside world-leading scientific research.
William’s appointment reinforces CSA Catapult’s commitment to supporting innovation across the semiconductor and quantum landscape, helping to connect UK capabilities, accelerate commercialisation and enable the development of resilient supply chains for emerging technologies.
