First Researchers in Residence join CSA Catapult to accelerate research in Net Zero

As a result, CSA Catapult will develop stronger links between universities and industry and will accelerate research and technology development across key areas such as Net Zero.

Three researchers, Dr Sheng Wang, Dr Bo Hou and Dr Saeed Jahdi, have joined CSA Catapult’s power electronics team at the Innovation Centre in Newport

The RiR scheme, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and delivered by the Innovation Launchpad Network+, encourages engagement within academia and allows researchers to work alongside the Catapult Network to gain knowledge and experience in working on key technologies that address global challenges such as climate change.

Dr Sheng Wang

Dr Wang, Lecturer at Cardiff University, started working with CSA Catapult in May 2023 and will be working with the team for a total of 18 months.

During the scheme, Dr Wang will be working on a project focused on Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistors for Net Zero applications such as electric vehicles.

Dr Bo Hou

Dr Hou, a Senior Lecturer at the School of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University, will be working with CSA Catapult until April 2026.

Dr Hou is working on a project focused on power capacitors, a key element for future vehicle electrification.

Dr Saeed Jahdi

Dr Jahdi is a Senior Lecturer in Power Electronics at the University of Bristol. Dr Saeed’s focus areas are within renewables-enabled smart grids, electric vehicles, automotive and aviation to tackle challenges such as global warming.

Dr Jahdi’s project will be focused on a unique integrated silicon carbide (SiC) power module for heavy-duty electric vehicle chargers
