Growing the UK compound semiconductor industry

We are here to deliver long-term economic benefit to the UK, accelerating economic growth wherever the application of compound semiconductors creates a competitive advantage, new products or markets.  

We grow R&D and create new jobs through our technology centres of excellence across the UK, using core technologies and our team’s expertise and know-how to optimise the performance of electronic systems.   

We deliver economic growth by collaborating with industry and academia to provide scale-up support and build new UK supply chains and skills.  

We support UK compound semiconductor clusters through programmes like Driving the Electric Revolution and we work with government to attract foreign direct investment.  

We will continue to grow our commercial income through efficient collaborative research and development, government contracts and by creating spin-out companies.  

In 2023, we commissioned Harlow Consulting to undertake independent research into the economic impact of the Catapult. The report highlighted the significant achievements of the Catapult in the period 2018 to 2023.

• Three-quarters of projects supported by CSA Catapult have experienced a positive increase in their Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) — a measure of the maturity of a technology
• Between 2018 and 2023, 2,827 jobs have been created or safeguarded within organisations that have worked with CSA Catapult
• Companies that have engaged with the Catapult have collectively secured, on average, annual private investment of £85m and £26.5m of annual public sector investment
