Wales in London March 2020 – Retrospective

20th November 2020

At the start of 2020, CSA Catapult Strategic Development Director, Andy Sellars attended the Wales in London event. As part of the event, CSconnected hosted a panel Towards a Trillion Devices, chaired by BBC Tomorrow’s World presenter and Teen Tech founder Maggie Philbin OBE.

We’re looking back at the Towards a Trillion Devices panel discussion and the themes and topics shared. A key topic was the importance of the UK preparing to meet the government target of Net Zero emissions by 2050. Flagged during the panel, to meet this target, we must take advantage of the UK’s capability as leaders within these technology areas, such as the strength in sovereign capability. By upscaling this technology, the UK will be at the forefront of enabling applications such as autonomous vehicles and healthcare technologies.

As well as the importance of Net Zero, ensuring the UK has a solid future telecoms infrastructure is a topic that was discussed and is still required. As a nation, it is vital that we obtain telecom diversification to ensure we build a future secure infrastructure. By doing this through technology such as compound semiconductors we will be able to produce digital services that have lower latency, greater flexibility, even greater capacity and provide affordable access.

A question asked on the panel was ‘Where does the CS cluster want to be in five years’ time?’ Our answer? To be known on a global scale for showcasing the UK’s capability in compound semiconductor technology. As we near the end of 2020, we look forward to supporting Wales in London in the not too distant future.
