Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult welcomed the Chairman and COOs of the Driving the Electric Revolution Industrialisation Centres (DER-IC) and colleagues to the Innovation Centre for a strategy workshop this week.

The workshop enabled the COOs and colleagues to review current deliverables and equipment installation progress across the UK and strategise how to be most effective in delivering the DER-IC’s mission.

Collaborative projects, funding and direct commercial engagements were discussed as potential methods to engage different-sized companies across the UK’s power, electronics, machines, and drives (PEMD) supply chain and the markets the DER-ICs serve.

The visit was the second of four hosted at each regional centre around the country and enabled COOs and colleagues to meet CSA Catapult team members working on DER-IC projects.

The group were also given a tour of the CSA Catapult labs, where state-of-the-art advanced packaging equipment is currently being commissioned for initial processing.

Following their visit to the Innovation Centre, the DER-IC COOs and colleagues visited CISM (Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials) at Swansea University to meet South West and Wales DER-IC partners and see the progress of their equipment and projects.

CSA Catapult is home to the DER-IC South West and Wales.

DER-IC aims to support the UK Government’s Net Zero target across multiple sectors including energy, industrial and transport, and build world-class capability in PEMD technology across the UK.

Paul Jarvie, DER Centre Lead at CSA Catapult said: “We were delighted to welcome the COOs to Newport and showcase the installation of our state-of-the-art equipment.

“This equipment enables a combination ofmixed metal and ceramic printing that can be applied to novel chip packages, heat sinks, and PCB designs. The equipment and expertise at CSA Catapult will help customers accelerate their businesses in a low-risk environment.

“It was great to come together with DER-IC colleagues and discuss the challenges and opportunities of engaging with more customers, and the exciting future direction of the DER Industrialisation Centres.”
