Data Protection Information

1.1 Data Controller

This project is being managed by the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult (CSAC) on behalf of CSAC and our partner organisations, including the Institute of Physics (IOP) and members of the Coordinating Committee comprising professionals from Lancaster University, Leonardo and an independent photonics expert. CSAC is the data controller for this data processing activity. More information about CSAC is available at https://csa.catapult.org.uk/.

1.2 Data subjects

CSAC may invite specific people to respond to this questionnaire. Personal data for those people will be collected from the following sources: published information available on the internet (e.g. company and university websites); information already known to CSAC (e.g. the individuals are existing contacts of CSAC); and information provided to CSAC by our partners, collaborators and customers (including the partner organisations listed above). CSAC will also make the questionnaire available through other means, e.g. by sharing a link to the questionnaire online or sharing it with industrial or academic groups for further dissemination. All individuals who are invited to respond to the questionnaire, or who access and respond to the questionnaire through public means, will be data subjects for the purposes of this project. Personal data to be processed: The following personal data will be processed in connection with this questionnaire: name; email address; organisation (e.g. company or university); role or function within organisation; address of organisation. Please note that if you do not provide this information then you may not be able to participate in this project.

1.3 Purpose of processing

CSAC will collect and process personal data of the people referred to above in order to facilitate this project. This includes: managing the questionnaire responses; following up directly with individual respondents where necessary; collating information to create the final report referred to below; and acknowledging and thanking respondents as noted below. CSAC and our project partners will not use this information for direct marketing purposes. This project does not use any automated decision-making.

1.4 Legal basis for processing

CSAC will process this personal data for the legitimate interest of undertaking the project. This legitimate interest does not present a significant risk to, and is therefore not overridden by, the interests, rights or freedoms of the data subjects listed above.

1.5 Sharing

CSAC is working with the partner organisations listed above and may share personal data collected in connection with the questionnaire with those partner organisations in order to facilitate this project. CSAC will not otherwise share personal data with third parties save for the information included in the final report (for which see below).

1.6 Storage

CSAC will be the main repository for personal data collected and processed for this project. CSAC stores information in Microsoft systems based on servers located within the UK. CSAC will store personal data collected for this project for the duration of the project and for up to five (5) years thereafter, after which it will be deleted.

1.7 Final report and acknowledgments

Once this project is complete the findings will be published in a Roadmap report. This will include an acknowledgment section listing and thanking all respondents, including respondents’ name, role and organisation. If you are happy for your name, role and organisation to be included in the acknowledgment section please tick the box within the questionnaire that confirms this. If you do not tick this box you will not be listed in the acknowledgment section. Please note that if you do tick this box but change your mind after publication we may not be able to remove your details from the final report, particularly if third parties have already downloaded copies of it.
